Central Region Middle School no.7 version 01

A new three story middle school for 1,350 students, set above underground parking, for the Los Angeles Unified School District. This 133,598 sf, $39 million project was set on a challenging 5.85 acre triangular site with barely enough room to meet the school district's needs. We developed unique circulation patterns which allowed parents to drop students off underneath the building. This solved part of the problems with a small site that had very difficult access, and created opportunities for exciting spatial sequences. The resultant site density demands the project be considered a piece of the city rather than a stand-alone body.
LAUSD's criteria for site access later changed, and this project was halted.
We completed a redesign, see CRMS7 ver 02.
